Supporting disadvantaged young people at the Amelia Trust Farm
Using our Community Benefits Fund we have recently donated £750 to the Amelia Trust Farm, a charity near Barry that supports disadvantaged young people.
This was possible due to our partnership with Cartrefi Ltd, contractors who were employed to redevelop the former Windsor pub in Barry to 12 affordable apartments. Cartrefi Ltd contributed to our fund, and the money was given to the Amelia Trust Farm.
Karen Turnbull, Director of Amelia Trust Farm said, “Amelia Trust is a small charity supporting disadvantaged and vulnerable young people from across South Wales and is a countryside sanctuary for everyone to enjoy. As well as being very popular with our visitors, our animals play a vital role in the life-changing work we do with young people. As an independent charity which receives no core funding from government, the current cost of living crisis has impacted all aspects of our work, so the support we’ve received from Newydd and Cartrefi Ltd couldn’t have come at a better time. Thank you so much for your support!”

About Amelia Trust Farm
The Amelia Trust Farm supports vulnerable and disadvantaged young people through their GROW programme. This programme helps young people learn new skills and build their confidence. Many have struggled in mainstream education; however, the farm provides an opportunity to gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in life. The animals play an important role in supporting the young people's mental health and wellbeing.
The Amelia Trust Farm is also home to two other charities supporting adults with learning difficulties and veterans of the armed forces, and the Farm is open to the public throughout the year. Their vision is to provide the best appropriate support for disadvantaged and vulnerable people within a care farm setting and to be an educative countryside sanctuary for all to enjoy.
Amelia Trust Farm have applied for the fund to improve their animal enclosures. The Farm is a popular destination for visitors, and by improving animal enclosures, they can attract even more visitors from the local community. This creates a sense of community, providing opportunities for people to connect, learn and engage with each other in a positive way.
Our Community Benefits Fund
By working with contractors who are committed to helping local communities, we are able to donate to local charities and communities using our Community Benefits Fund.
Our Community Benefits Coordinator, Jonathan James said, "At Newydd, we are committed to supporting local charities and initiatives that enhance the wellbeing of our communities. Our partnership with Amelia Trust Farm and Carterfi Ltd is a prime example of this commitment. We believe that by working together, we can build stronger and more resilient communities that benefit everyone."
He added, “Applications are scrutinised by our funding panel which includes members of staff from across the organisation as well as our tenants. The application process only requires a simple form, and we can support you to make a submission, so please do get in touch if you need funding.”
