How to Use and Store Your Electric Vehicle Safely
Mobility scooters and e-bikes are becoming increasingly popular. Most use lithium batteries and can be charged at home. It's important to store and charge them safely to prevent fire hazards.
Safety Tips:
- Before purchasing, contact us so that we can carry out fire safety checks.
- Consider getting insurance for third-party claims and protection against theft or damage.
- Never store scooters in communal areas to prevent obstructions and ensure emergency exits remain clear.
- Install smoke alarms in the area where you charge your vehicle.
- Store your vehicle in a shed or garage at least 6 meters away from the main building when possible.
- Ensure you can easily access your vehicle if stored outside.
- Perform yearly Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on your scooter

Charging your scooter:
- Use the correct charger and ensure it meets UK safety standards.
- Let the battery cool before charging
- Watch for signs of battery failure to prevent fire risks.
- Unplug once charged and do not charge overnight or when away from home to prevent fire risks.
