Electric Vehicles (EV) and charging
Thinking of getting an Electric Vehicle (EV)? Before you buy an EV, make sure you can charge it at home.
Can I install an EV charger at my home?
You can install an EV charger as long as you get permission first. This includes approval from Newydd and your local council.
Due to health and safety risks, we are unable to provide permission for installation of EV chargers to homes without driveways. For driveways solely serving a property, get in touch with us and we will consider your application. For shared driveways, we are unlikely to approve permission for chargers due to the cables running over land that someone else has a right to use.
How do I get permission to install an EV charger?
To request permission fo an EV charger, you’ll need to fill out a Home Improvement Form here.
You should not start any work on the property until we have given permission for you to do so. When you have completed the form, please return it to our Assets and Sustainability Team by post to Cadarn Housing Group, 5 Village Way, Tongwynlais, CF15 7NE or by email to enquiries@newydd.co.uk. We will respond to your request within 30 days from receipt of the fully completed request form.
Will Newydd install an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger for me?
We currently don’t have funding to install Electric Vehicle (EV) charge points/facilities for our homes. Our current focus is to improve the energy performance of our homes and where practical, to provide renewable energy sources, such as solar PVs, to help our tenants minimise the impact on their energy bills. This may change, so we will provide updates as we get them.
Will Newydd put in a driveway for me to have an EV charge point?
We won’t be able to do this. If you want to do it yourself, you’ll need to fill in an Home Improvement Form and send it to our Assets and Sustainability team for them to consider your request. If it’s approved, you will have to cover the cost of alterations yourself.
I already have an Electric Vehicle (EV) but don’t have a driveway, how can I charge my vehicle?
Local Authorities are looking at the most suitable ways to provide charging points in the county. Please use a web search to find the latest list of charge points in your area.
