Success for Newydd at the TPAS Cymru Good Practice Awards
Newydd Housing Association had a successful day at TPAS Cymru’s good practice awards ceremony in December, winning two awards and coming second in another.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the annual awards ceremony couldn’t take place face-to-face this year. However, an online ceremony on the 15th of December 2021 showcased the valuable impact collaboration between tenants and landlords can have, particularly during these difficult times.
Newydd won the ‘Making Online Tenant Engagement Work’ award for our ‘Practice Makes Progress’ entry which included a range of diverse online engagement activities such as Facebook conferences, Straight Talking sessions with Newydd’s Tenant Scrutiny Group to raise awareness of important issues and Zoom coffee mornings to improve relationships. Newydd was also commended for offering digital support and equipment to tenants to ensure that everyone can get involved with online activities.
The ‘Tenant of the Year’ award went to Amanda Lawrence, a Newydd tenant from Barry. Amanda is an incredibly dedicated individual who throws herself into every challenge, continuously working with Newydd to make a positive change for the benefit of all tenants.
Amanda Lawrence said, “I was shocked and very emotional at winning the award. I am grateful that I've been given the opportunity by Newydd to support tenants of all needs, now and in the future.”
Second place for the ‘Involving Tenants in Shaping Services’ award went to Newydd’s ‘Working Independently Together’ submission. Tenants play a central role in shaping Newydd’s achievements and are essential in the development and delivery of services. By working with tenants to improve and drive our services forward, relationships have been strengthened and innovative ideas have been developed.
Jason Wroe, Chief Executive of Newydd said, “Tenants are at the heart of everything we do and working with tenants ensures that our services are the best they can be. These awards recognise what we have been able to achieve through our tenant involvement activities and how important it is that we work together to continuously improve.”
