Cadwyn officially joins the Cadarn Group
Dear Tenants,
As of 1st November 2024, Cadwyn Housing Association has officially joined the Cadarn Housing Group (previously named Newydd Group) alongside Newydd Housing Association. Both Newydd and Cadwyn will operate separately within the Cadarn Housing Group whilst working together through sharing knowledge and resources to better serve our communities.
This partnership is a big step as we celebrate a new milestone in the group’s history as we celebrate our 50th birthday. By collaborating, Cadwyn and Newydd will be stronger financially, allowing us to provide more affordable homes and improve existing properties.

Celebrating 50 years of Newydd
Can you believe Newydd has been around for half a century already?
In this video Jason reflects back on how Newydd has changed over the last 50 years, and reflects on his time when he started as a Housing Officer in 1996.
A brief history of Newydd
1974
Newydd Housing Association is formed and our first office opened in Cardiff. Our aim is to provide good quality affordable rented homes. We start on plans to build our first scheme in Tongwynlais, appropriately named Newydd Court.
1985
Newydd start building Philippa Freeth Court in Barry and Alltwen in Abernant, both sheltered housing schemes for older tenants.
1993
After a long period of negotiation, tenants on the Glyntaff estate near Pontypridd vote to transfer over 400 homes to Newydd. An improvement programme starts on the estate with an investment value of over £22 million.
1998
The Newydd Board decide to form a group structure. The aim is to provide a flexible structure for growth and diversification, The Cadarn Housing Group is born.
1999
The refurbishment of the Glyntaff estate is completed, on time and on budget. Our work with tenants and the contractor is praised as best practice. The transmitter for GTFM community radio is turned on, broadcasting from the estate and still going strong today.
2013
Our new subsidiary Living Quarters Wales is born. Its aim is to provide an ethical private sector lettings service that is fair to both landlords and tenants.
2018
You spoke, we listened. Newydd introduces Newydd Maintenance Ltd to the group structure, bringing repairs in-house.
2024
Cadwyn Housing Association proudly becomes a part of the Cadarn Housing Group, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing community housing and services.
We look forward to the next 50 years!
