Newyddion: Your September tenant newsletter
Hi! This is the September edition of your tenant newsletter, ‘Newyddion’, which is Welsh for ‘news’. In this newsletter, we will be sharing information about the support that we can offer you, and keep you up to date on what we have been up to. Please feel free to reply to this email with your feedback about this newsletter, and let us know what you'd like to see next. Thank you.
Women in construction
"The world is your oyster. There are great opportunities out there, just go for it!"
Watch the video to witness the incredible women at Newydd who work in our maintenance, development and regeneration departments. They share their inspiring stories, valuable advice, and challenge stereotypes in the construction industry!
If a career in construction or housing is something that you might have an interest in, we can help! Jackie our Employability Officer can work with you to find suitable training or placements. To find out more about what we can offer, click here.
Community pop-up at Barry Waterfront
We recently held a community pop-up for tenants at Barry Waterfront. Staff from across the organisation helped with repairs, money information and concerns related to anti-social behaviour. We appreciate all those who took a moment of your time to share your thoughts with us. Your input and feedback have been incredibly valuable.
If you would like us to host a community pop-up in your estate, please let us know by emailing marketing@newydd.co.uk.
Beware of telephone scams
One of our tenants recently received a call from someone claiming to represent Newydd. They needed to schedule an appointment at his property, however, no one showed up. When he called them back they asked him to confirm all his personal details again, which raised a red flag for him. Thankfully he refused to give them any information.
We want to remind you all to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages, especially if they claim to be from Newydd or any other organisation. Always verify the legitimacy of the caller by calling us on 0303 040 1998 before sharing any personal information.
Please share this information with other tenants to raise awareness.
Please #BeKind
We want to share with you that sadly some of our staff have been subject to abuse recently. We are here to keep our customers safe and to provide the best service that we can, but we’re also responsible for protecting our staff from abuse, hostility and violence. We will always investigate something that a customer feel is wrong. However, that doesn’t mean our staff, contractors or others working on our behalf, will tolerate unacceptable behaviour, no matter how much the customer thinks it is justified. Our staff have feelings and the abuse some of them have received recently has impacted them greatly. We urge you to please #BeKind when you contact us. Thank you.
Fire safety
You may already be aware that the Welsh Government introduced new rules and guidance which clarifies our fire safety responsibilities as your landlord. If you live in a flat, you might have gotten a notice for a visit from our fire risk assessor to check your home.
The fire risk assessor will pay attention to your front entrance fire door, windows, balconies, cladding, insulation, and any communal areas. Please help us by allowing access at the agreed appointment time.
There are also many ways you can help us keep you safe. You can do this by making sure that all communal areas are always kept clear. We are responsible for the area you live in, which means we have a duty to ensure that all communal spaces in your building (if there are any) comply with fire and safety regulations. Items stored or left in communal areas are a hazard as they can prevent you and your neighbours from leaving the building safely in the event of a fire.
If any items are left in a communal area in your building, then you can report this by calling 0303 040 1998. For more information about fire safety, please click here.
