Newyddion: Your October tenant newsletter
Hi! This is the October edition of your tenant newsletter, ‘Newyddion’, which is Welsh for ‘news’. In this newsletter, we will be sharing information about the support that we can offer you, and keep you up to date on what we have been up to. Please feel free to reply to this email with your feedback about this newsletter, and let us know what you'd like to see next. Thank you.
Electrical testing
We are currently working through a programme of electrical testing and have instructed Jeffway Electrical to complete this. We have a legal duty to carry out this work to ensure the electrics in your home are safe for you and your neighbours. If you receive a letter or call from Jeffway Electrical, please book an appointment with them, and ensure you’re available for access to complete the test on the agreed date. Thank you.
Do you receive Working Tax Credits or Child Tax Credits?
Tax credits are coming to an end, and you will be asked to apply for Universal Credit instead. Look out for a letter called a Universal Credit Migration Notice from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) explaining what you’ll need to do, and by when.
You won’t be moved automatically, so it’s important to act quickly and follow the instructions in the letter, otherwise your benefits will stop. For more information on how you can get ready for this change, please click on the here to access a leaflet provided by Universal Credit. You can also click here for more information.
If you are struggling with this change, our friendly Financial Inclusion team can help you and support you in applying for Universal Credit.

A warm welcome to Maureen and Geoffrey!
Maureen is moving into her new apartment at the Seaview with her husband Geoffrey, she said, “The day that Clare, our Housing Officer, called me to ask me if we were still interested in the flat, I thought we had won the lottery! I am the happiest person ever. We are moving here to be closer to family, but also everything is on our doorstep. My daughter lives 2 streets away, the train station isn’t far, and neither are the shops. This flat doesn’t have any steps and everything is level, where we lived before in the Ogmore Valley, there were lots of steps to climb and a big hill, living here is going to make a big difference to us. It must be fate as this place has the same house number as our old home! We will be so happy here, we are over the moon.”
We hope Maureen and Geoffrey will be very happy in their new home.
Our community pop-up events
We’ve recently been out and about in our communities with our community pop-up events. On the 21st of September, our teams went door-to-door in Rhydyfelin, knocking on a total of 231 doors. Last week, members of staff travelled to Newtown and knocked on another 139 doors. A big thank you to all tenants who took the time to chat with us. Your insights and feedback have been incredibly valuable. If you would like us to host a community pop-up in your estate, please do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing marketing@newydd.co.uk.
Energy efficient homes
We're thrilled to share some feedback from one of our wonderful tenants who recently had solar panels installed through our decarbonisation program! "Very pleased with them, a little disruption as expected but workmen were lovely and considerate. Seems to be making a difference to energy bills also, so very happy. Thank you."
We want to continue to improve living conditions, creating better, more comfortable environments for you as our tenants.
In time, we will ensure that all of our houses will be more energy efficient. If you would like us to visit your home and see how we can make it more energy efficient, please email Caroline Evans, our Tenant Liaison Officer on caroline.evans@newydd.co.uk.
