Ger y Môr, Barry

Vale of Glamorgan

Newydd secured the historic site of the former Marine Hotel in October 2013 with support from the Vale of Glamorgan Council. The site is of historical significance to the area having been built in 1890. It has been converted to 5 one bedroom flats and 3 two bedroom flats, retaining its original features. The existing car parking area has also be redeveloped to provide 12 one bedroom apartments, offering a total of 20 homes for rent.

Pendragon Design and Build was appointed by Newydd as the contractor to redevelop Ger y Môr. The locally based contractor started the £2.4 million redevelopment in March 2014 with tenants moving into their new homes in June 2015.

These spacious new homes have been built to Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3+ based on a design by Tony King Architects which included a design project team involving Geraint John Planning, Lodestone, Hicks Titley and RPA Group.

Local community

We invested £83,000 in the local community through the section 106 contributions of the contract. £40,000 was allocated to the transport infrastructure and £43,000 towards developing public open space in the area.
