Tenant scrutiny group

Our Scrutiny Group is a group of tenants that investigate Newydd and have fun in doing so!

Emma, Cath, Nicola and Sandra meet once a month, talk to Newydd staff, other tenants and even go on best practice visits to other housing associations. They write reports detailing their findings on a particular area of service which then goes to the Newydd or Cadarn board to recommend what changes need to be made.

They have looked at a number of areas to date including customer services, human resources, out of hours repairs, the lettings standard, independent living, rent arrears and collection, service charge consultation and anti-social behaviour.

At the end of October 2015 the group travelled to the Rum Warehouse and Titanic Hotel in Liverpool for the Customer Scrutiny Inspection (CSI) Awards, set up to showcase and celebrate good practice in tenant scrutiny and inspection with the ultimate aim of improving landlord services for all tenants. Surrounded by hundreds of fellow tenants, Emma and John, two of the five strong tenant team at Newydd, were called up to the stage at the ceremony to be presented with the ‘Most Inspiring Scrutiny Group in Wales’ award.

In July 2016 Newydd’s Tenant Scrutiny Group were the recipients of TPAS Cymru’s ‘Tenant Scrutiny Award’ for a second year in a row, gaining the competitive accolade having successfully scrutinised 9 areas of service since the group formed in 2009. Their commitment to the group was described as ‘exceptional’ and their presence in the field termed ‘inspirational’ by TPAS Cymru.
