Computer training

Newydd runs IT workshops to help our tenants gain new skills. You can even gain a qualification if you wish! We have Digital Champions who are trained to help support their local community through Digital Drop-in sessions. We also offer a scheme where tenants can loan computers to help prevent people from being digitally excluded. We also run "I-Tea and Coffee" mornings in all our independent living schemes to help older people to get online.

Loan a computer

Get Online at Home is part of Newydd's digital inclusion programme where a loan scheme is used alongside a Microsoft initiative. Newydd purchase laptops as part of the Get Online consortium and tenants who attend five digital drop-ins or have completed an accredited course through Newydd are then eligible to borrow a recycled laptop and dongle for up to three months, with the opportunity to purchase it through a credit union. This allows tenants to gain confidence in their digital skills and access the internet in an affordable way.

John Dowden above receives tuition from Scott Tandy from Newydd.

Janet Rees purchased a laptop after taking part in the Loan IT scheme, she said, "In comparison to others in my class my level of knowledge wasn't as good as the others, therefore I registered with the scheme. From the first day I took the equipment home I could see massive improvements in my confidence and skills and I then enquired about purchasing one through Get Online at Home."

As a result Janet is now secretary of her own depression busting group and writes letters, creates posters and researches local services online.
