Anniversary celebration for new Llantwit community
On Saturday 5th August, residents of Cwrt Col-Huw, a brand new housing development in Llantwit Major, celebrated their first anniversary with a celebration for all the family.
Over 50 people attended the summer fete at Cwrt Col-Huw, a £2.1million housing scheme located adjacent to St Illtyd Primary School on Llanmaes Road, which was built and owned by Newydd Housing Association.
A bouncy castle, cake decorating workshop, glitter tattoos and stone painting was available for all the family to enjoy, culminating in a barbeque open to all whilst mascots from recent films entertained young children.
The anniversary celebration was funded by Newydd through their Community Grant scheme, ensuring that residents living at the 13 two bedroom and 5 one bedroom apartments can get to know their neighbours in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
Jayne Howells who is an Estate Ambassador and tenant at Cwrt Col-Huw said, “Since moving here we’re all enjoying being part of a community, we feel less isolated as we support each other. We would like to thank Newydd for the grant that has allowed us to put on this celebration as well as providing us with beautiful planters having worked with young people in Rhydyfelin near Pontypridd to build them. We would also like to thank Bethel Chapel who provided us with tables, in return any leftover food from the event will be donated to the foodbank in the area.”
Rachel Honey-Jones, Community Regeneration Manager at Newydd said, “We are so pleased that our tenants at Cwrt Col-Huw have found our involvement such a benefit to their community. The purpose of the Newydd Community Grant is to ensure that our funding goes a long way and it’s clear that our support has made a difference here. I would like to congratulate all residents on organising such a fabulous event and wish them all the best in the future.”
